“Thor” came to us via the RSPCA in August 2006. At first, he looked like a hopeless case: he could not stand, as his back legs kept buckling under him. We thought we had been hit by a car, but didn’t know the details. Our vet checked him over and could feel no fractures. After a chat with a homeopathic vet, Marilyn got to work on Thor with Arnica and Hypericum drops, which she added to his water. She also massaged his weak side (on the left) with arnica balm twice daily. “His name came to me while I was massaging him during a thunderstorm. It was amazing – he had this wonderful presence about him and gave a look which seemed to say ‘Come on, I’m really worth a try’,” said Marilyn. “It was a long road to recovery. Many times I questioned whether I was doing the right thing but, little by little, we got there.”Thor was released into a soft release site in April 2007. The photograph shows Thor growing a new pair of antlers – he almost looks as if he’s wearing a crown! |
